16 May 2025

Travelers visiting Indonesia should be aware of the government’s IMEI registration policy for mobile devices. Implemented by Bea Cukai (Indonesian Customs), this rule ensures that all foreign phones used in Indonesia are registered to avoid network restrictions. Foreign nationals who live in Indonesia for less than 90 days can get network services by registering their IMEI at a telecommunications operator outlet. While buy the SIM Card or eSIM from telecommunications operator, what needs to be prepared?

  1. Passport
  2. IMEI Phone (check by dial *#06#)
  3. Photo of tourist holding passport

If you not purchase a SIM Card or eSIM, so your phone may lose network access because your phone's IMEI is not registered. IMEI registration for tourists still follows the rules from government, maximum of registering 2 phones for each person. So, when you buy a SIM Card or eSIM, it includes IMEI registration which will be assisted by telecommunications operator.
